Federal Government Withdraws Funding from PNCIMA Coastal Conservation Initiative

The Federal government has decided to unilaterally withdraw from a funding agreement meant to provide money for the Pacific North Coast Area Management Initiative (PNCIMA), a process to create a comprehensive plan to manage the environmental and economic needs of the North Coast from the top of the Haida Gwaii to the top of Vancouver Island.

Since oil tanker traffic offers no benefits to coastal ecosystems (only risks of marine disasters), PNCIMA will most likely be taking a critical view of the Northern Gateway Pipeline.  Read more about the Feds’ political interference and Nathan Cullen’s criticism on BCLocalNews.com.
